(Labor Day – 12/31/18)
We invite all parents to participate in the Fall Drive every year, while BCE volunteers educate our community about BCE’s mission and the positive impact our grant makes on every child in the district. The sooner and more accurately BCE forecasts donations from our parent donor base, the more volunteer resources we can focus on non-parent sources of funding.
Donations made during the Fall Drive or anytime throughout the year count towards a family’s annual campaign donation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the BCE Read-a-thon?
The BCE Read-a-thon is similar in concept to a walk-a-thon, but instead of exercising
their bodies by tracking how much they walk, our students will be exercising their brains
by tracking how much they read. This fundraiser for our schools involves no selling of
products, only donations from friends and family to support the sponsored child’s efforts.
Why a Read-a-thon?
The annual Read-a-thon is our way of supporting the BCE annual grant to the Burlingame School District by generating 100% profit through collection of sponsorships. Successful fundraising events and donations help BCE provide the school district with the financial resources to fund teachers and create a rich and inspiring education for our children beyond what is possible with public funds.
How does the Read-a-thon work?
Create your child’s personal fundraising page and send emails to family and friends to obtain sponsors. Starting Monday, January 30 through Friday, February 3, read, read, read!! All contributions must be recorded by February 5 to be eligible for the grand prize drawing.
How do you track minutes?
The official minute tracker will be available in January. Use this tracker during reading days (January 30-February 3) to keep track of the minutes your child reads. Parents may read to children in grades TK-2nd. Everything your child reads outside of the classroom counts! Minutes should be recorded by end of day Sunday, February 5th.
What counts as reading?
Students can choose whatever they want to read. They can read books, e-books, poetry, comics, magazines, audiobooks – anything goes! They are not being assessed, it’s all about reading for fun, building a love of reading, and supporting Burlingame schools. Students can be read to in grades TK-2nd, those minutes count too!
Don’t know what to read?
Our own Burlingame public library is a great resource! Check out books, audiobooks and other resources at our library. Stop in and ask the librarians for book suggestions. You can also check out dozens of booklists curated just for you by genre and age. And remember, library accounts and books are always free to all.
All proceeds from the 2023 BCE Read-a-thon go to BCE to help provide the education our kids deserve.
